For many, Marbella is the trade mark of the Costa del Sol. The close to 140,000 residents who live here, spread over 100 nationalities, has made Marbella into one of the most cosmopolitan and fashionable areas on the Costa del Sol. With no less than 17 golf courses it’s also the absolute favourite destination for Golf enthusiasts. In the centre of the old town of Marbella is the Orange Square, offering visitors a wide variety of restaurants and bars. Many International Schools are also located here and just west of Marbella is the well-known Marina Puerto Banús with luxury boutiques and top restaurants. The popular areas Nueva Andalucia and San Pedro de Alcántara also form part of Marbella. Estimated travel time to Malaga airport from Marbella is around 45 minutes.
The Golden Mile stretches from Marbella Town and Puerto Banús and is one of the most famous areas of Marbella, due to its colourful history and very exclusive hotels and restaurants. The origin of The Golden Mile was the famous Marbella Club, built by Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe, which rapidly became highly popular amongst the jet-setters of the world.
Travelling west from Marbella Town, along the Golden Mile, you soon arrive in the Nueva Andalucia area located just above Puerto Banús. Many refer to the area as the “Golf Valley” due to the many well-known Golf courses situated here; Aloha, Las Brisas and the Swedish owned Los Naranjos, among others. Nueva Andalucia, together with Fuengirola, is the most popular area on the Costa del Sol. Just above Puerto Banús is Centro Plaza where the coast´s largest outdoor market is held every Saturday.
Puerto Banús is arguably one of the best known areas on the Costa del Sol, maybe even in the whole of Spain. The rich and famous gather here together with others who enjoy the glamorous lifestyle in luxurious surroundings. The harbour was the brain child of the respected Spanish architect José Banús and quickly earned a reputation for being the number one hotspot among the jet setting elite of the world. The harbour has facilities for over 100 yachts and is a frequent destination for some of the largest yachts in the world, many complete with helicopter landing pads on the roof. You will find every well-known designer boutique here and also the large Spanish department store, El Corte Inglés.
